Ibrahim Al-Musaytir Conducts a Workshop for Judges on the Health Professions Practice Law

The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, organized a five-day workshop in the city of Taif titled "The Health Jurisprudence Committee", with the participation of a number of esteemed judges and committee members.

Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Ajiri, Judge at the General Court in Makkah, addressed the comparison between the Health Professions Practice Law and judicial regulations. He also examined existing legal gaps, jurisprudential evidence, principles and rules related to medical matters, as well as physicians' rights and obligations in dealing with patients, and patients' rights in their interactions with healthcare professionals.

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz bin Huwaimil, Judge at the General Court in Riyadh, discussed various applied judicial issues related to the committee’s operations.

Legal Advisor Ibrahim Al-Musaytir, General Supervisor of the Legal Affairs Department at the Ministry of Health, focused on the Health Professions Practice Law, the jurisdiction of the Health Jurisprudence Committees and their members, the role of the Ministry’s specialized medical boards, the penal provisions stated in the law, and the committee's relationship with other government bodies such as the Supreme Court, regular courts, the Ministry of Justice, the Board of Grievances, the Ministry of Health, public and private hospitals, and entities responsible for issuing medical licenses.

Professor Dr. Tareq Zamzami from the University Hospital in Jeddah presented on medical errors, their types and degrees, medical records, medical reports, physicians’ classifications and responsibilities, and the roles of medical departments within hospitals across the Kingdom.

Earlier, the Minister of Justice, Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, had issued a decision appointing 42 judges to preside over Health Jurisprudence Committees across all regions of the Kingdom. These committees are tasked with adjudicating professional medical errors related to private rights claims (such as blood money, compensation, and indemnities), as well as cases involving death, organ damage, or loss of full or partial function.

It is worth noting that this workshop is part of the Ministry of Justice's ongoing efforts to train judges on emerging legal issues. This initiative is aligned with the Ministry’s focus on enhancing human capital as part of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz's Project to Develop the Judiciary.
